CPS Annual Research Proposal Process
Center for Produce Safety’s annual call for research proposals is a rigorous and highly collaborative process. To assist researchers in developing strong proposals, CPS offers a variety of resources and support. For inquiries, please contact us at [email protected].
Available Resources:
- Industry Facility Visits: Researchers have the opportunity to visit industry facilities, either in person or virtually, to gain insights into current industry practices. These visits are invaluable for understanding the practical applications and challenges within the industry.
- Office Hours: During the development of preliminary proposals, CPS offers office hours where researchers can consult with our team. These consultations are required for those submitting a full proposal and provide an opportunity to discuss CPS research priorities, review research concepts, and address any administrative questions.

CPS-Funded Project Oversight
CPS provides interactive oversight for funded projects, assigning an Industry Advisory Council to each one.
Expectations for Funded Scientists:
- Biannual Meetings: Meet with your council twice a year to review progress and address any issues.
- Virtual Site Visits: Participate in fall Virtual Site Visits to update CPS leaders and funding partners.
Knowledge Transfer Participation:
- Present at the CPS Research Symposium: Deliver interim and final project reports in person.
Attention professors: Encourage your MSc candidates to jumpstart their produce safety careers
If you have MSc candidates eager to advance their careers in produce safety, consider applying for CPS’s pilot Industry Immersion Program together. This program offers a unique opportunity for students to secure grants and conduct essential research directly on-site at produce firms, gaining invaluable hands-on experience. Participants will also benefit from professional development training and mentorship.
CPS accepts applications for the MSc program year-round. The program provides up to $25,000 in CPS funds, which are matched by direct and/or in-kind support from participating industry firms. Please note that university indirect costs must not exceed 8% of salaries and benefits.
“I appreciate the connections [CPS makes with] industry partners, and their willingness to share information with us on real-world situations in the field and during processing. This makes our research much more impactful.”
